Time Warner Chairman and CEO Richard D. Parsons and Time Inc. Chairman and CEO Ann S. Moore

| Context: |
Time Warner Inc. is the parent corporation of Time Inc., owner of 130+ magazines globally, and the worlds largest media company . Many of Time Inc.s magazines have significant youth readership yet long histories of tobacco advertising, including obvious offenders such as Time, People, Popular Science, Field & Stream and Sports Illustrated. Times deep links to the tobacco industry are no secret. Current Time Warner Board Chairman and CEO Richard D. Parsons served as a director of Philip Morris Companies, Inc from 1990 to 2000. Michael A. Miles was the Chairman and CEO of Philip Morris from 1991 to 1994, before becoming a Time Warner director in 1995. Until now world health advocates have largely remained silent while an ocean of Time Inc. tobacco advertising has created fertile climates for youth smoking dependency in communities around the world. Unfortunately, Time Inc. has now chosen to run reckless and dangerous ads selling candy flavored cigarettes: RJR's Camel Winter Mocha Mint & Warm Winter Toffee in its magazines. more info >>

Original letters are encouraged but a pre-written letter is provided for your convenience.
Counter Times basic argument: (1) tobacco is legal (2) the ads do not reflect Times judgment Why force legislative action or wait to be compelled by international law and the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) when Time can immediately wash its hands? Why help foster a tobacco epidemic that annually kills five million, a toll that will double by 2025? Time Inc.s current slogan is "A Heritage of Excellence" 3 of the 7 Time Warner values are: (1) customer focus (2) integrity, and (3) responsibility Are shareholders served by contributing to the demise of readers 13 to 14 years early? Does Time know how many cigarettes it takes for the average teen to become addicted? Does Time Inc. have any estimate of the millions of youth it has helped enslave and kill since 1923? Are a hefty portion of the salaries of writers and editors flowing from dependency, decay, disease and death?
