SMOKED HOUSE OF COMMONS , (Congreso de los Diputados). Madrid, Spain. HELP!!!
I am asking for your attention and help to support the action of a M.P, in the Spanish equivalent of the House of Commons in UK.
Even though since 1988 Spain has had very clear laws about the rights of non-smokers (Law 192/88) the authorities have had no interest in taking sides between the tobacco industry and public health. This attitude has led to the following situation:
In the House of Commons, Madrid, a M.P. has been obliged to ask for an investigation into the rights of the non-smoker during working meetings in Parliament.
To smoke or not in meetings depends on the chairman of the meeting, not on the Law. For some years no smoking has been requested in the Main Hall because of the valuable paintings. Recently have been dictated rules not to smoke in the lifts, kitchens, archives and where there could be pregnant women.
The M.P. Ignasi Guardns, has threatened to take this demand to the Constitutional Tribunal.
I am asking you to send an e-mail to support this M.P. who has had the courage to claim his rights in the Spanish House of Commons itself. You may think this is a joke, but it is happening in a country, member of the European Union with a Law that clearly states the rights of the non-smoker prevail in the case of Law. (Real decreto 192/88).
The e-mails is: ignasi.guardans@diputado.congreso.es
Once again thank you very much and I hope for your aid as before to the cry for help, November 2002, when no less person than the Canary Islands Health Counsellor said that they must protect the Tobacco Industry. That was not a joke either.
